As the youngest and least-spoken-about son of the Queen, Prince Edward has only been married once. He and his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have been married for over 20 years. The full-time senior working members of the royal family have a knack for staying under the radar.
In comparison to the rest of his royal siblings, 55-year-old Prince Edward has led a quiet family life. Having been married to his wife Sophie for almost 21 years, the prince has no scandals like those of other royal divorcees. The two have a teenage daughter and son who are always present at family gatherings but never gather too much attention to themselves.
The Queen’s Youngest Son
Prince Edward was born on March 10, 1964, to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. As the youngest child of the Queen, Edward is 10th in line to the throne. Edward received a bachelor’s degree from Jesus College in Cambridge in 1986. After graduating, Prince Edward worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theatre company and fronting Ardent Productions from 1993 to 2002.
Edward has fully assumed his royal duties and even took over some of his father’s duties in 2017. This is due to his father’s inability to carry out some responsibilities due to his age.
Countess of Wessex Sophie
Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones was born in Oxford, England on January 20th, 1965. After marrying Prince Edward she was under the critical eye of the press but always received help from the crown. According to Harper’s Bazaar, Sophie is known as one of the Queen’s most trusted in-laws.
After their marriage in 1999, Sophie got involved in the Wessex Youth Trust among other charities and became a full working royal.
Their Daughter: Lady Louise Windsor
Lady Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor was born on November 8th, 2003. According to BBC, Lady Louise was born prematurely and therefore had complications and an eye condition that was later corrected in her teenage years.
Their Son: James Alexander
With the full name of James Alexander Philip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor, James was born on December 17th, 2007. He is 12th in line to the throne.
Both James and his sister Louise have courtesy titles rather than official titles, as decided by their parents. According to The Vancouver Sun, both children were honored by having two lakes in Manitoba, Canada, named after them.
