John Wayne Blasts ‘Left-Wing Radicals’ Who Are ‘Conning’ Americans

A resurfaced interview that John Wayne gave in 1975 is going viral. Some Americans are saying the legendary actor is talking about what’s happening in our country today.

An excerpt from an interview John Wayne gave from his Newport Beach home in 1975 is ringing true for some Americans over 45 years later. The actor, who is known as the Duke, was asked about his personal politics, and that’s when the Oscar-winner blasted liberals, who may not like what he had to say.

“I have found that a certain type who calls himself a liberal…well, hell, I always thought I was a liberal,” the Duke began. “I became terribly surprised one time when I found out I was a ‘right-wing conservative extremist’… when I have listened to everybody’s point of view, that I ever met, and then decide how I should feel.”

“But these new liberals, Jesus, they never listen to your point of view,” Wayne declared. “And they make a decision about what you think… and they are articulate enough, and they control enough of the press, to force that image out… for the average person to believe.”

The True Grit star then claimed these “liberals” have an agenda. “You’re being conned… into socialism now,” he said. “But it’s not gonna stop the selfishness of human behavior, or the greed. If you take $20 dollars and give one dollar to every son-of-a-b*tch in the room, and you come back a year later, one of the bastards will have most of the money.”

In a separate interview on the same subject, John Wayne again tried to explain that the word “liberal” did not match, in his opinion, those individuals identifying themselves as liberals. “Hell yes, I’m a liberal,” Wayne said. “I listen to both sides before I make up my mind. Doesn’t that make you a liberal? Not in today’s terms, it doesn’t. These days, you have to be a f*cking left-wing radical to be a liberal.”

During the same interview, Wayne claimed, “Very few of the so-called liberals are open-minded… they shout you down and won’t let you speak if you disagree with them.” The Duke also explained what he thought was the end goal of these liberals. “I’m quite sure that the concept of a Government-run reservation… seems to be what the socialists are working for now — to have everyone cared for from cradle to grave,” he declared.

“But you can’t whine and bellyache ’cause somebody else got a break and you didn’t,” Wayne added. “We’ll all be on a reservation soon if the socialists keep subsidizing with our tax money.” Wayne also had another side to his politics, and that was his enduring love of America. In a resurfaced video, he reminds Americans that we are a country that produced some of the most remarkable individuals who didn’t “bellyache” about tough times.

The viral video covers great Americans like Booker T. Washington, Neil Armstrong, Charles Lindbergh, and John F. Kennedy. “What every man, woman, or kid I ever met really wants more than anything else, is tomorrow,” Wayne says in the video. “And if tomorrow, every one of us gets out of our beds and says, ‘This is my country, and I’m gonna do good for it,’ we’d make the greatest step forward since the pilgrims stepped on Plymouth Rock.”

John Wayne had a lot to say about liberals, and it appears that what most irked The Green Beret star was the definition of “liberal” versus what he saw happening in society. “Actually, we were the real liberals,” he said. “We believed in freedom. We believed in the individual and his rights. We hated Soviet Communism because it was against [freedom and individual rights].”

As the saying goes, “history repeats itself,” and that’s what many right-wing Americans who listen to John Wayne 45 years later are claiming. “Sure sounds like he’s describing what we’re all going through now,” Rusty Richmond wrote. “He was a true patriot I think we all could take a lesson from him.” It’s also why studying the past is the only way to know what may lie ahead. We can all learn from past mistakes and ensure we pass on the best way forward to future generations.
